David Foster

Dr David Foster is Director of Career Development and Skills at University College Dublin. Recruited in 2009, David has transformed UCD Careers Network in terms of mission, scale and scope. In addition to leading the central Careers Network, David jointly manages the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School Careers Network.

In transforming career services, David adopted The CareerEDGE Model of Employability (Dacre-Pool and Sewell) to theoretically underpin a work programme designed to enhance students’ self-efficacy and self-confidence. In addition to supporting students better, Careers Network is recognised as a strategic asset in delivering on the educational experience at UCD.

Academically and professionally qualified, David holds a BSc in Psychology and Linguistics, a Graduate Diploma in Career Guidance, a MSc in Guidance and Counselling and a PhD exploring Career-Decision Making Self-Efficacy in undergraduates.  David holds a senior award in Leadership and Management from the City and Guilds of London.   David has contributed to national and international working groups  and is a Director of the Association of Higher Education Careers Services in Ireland.  David is a Member of the Institute of City and Guilds and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
